About the Chief Flight Instructor

Robert Thorne is the owner and chief flight instructor of Advanced Heli-Flight Ltd.  Rob has over 18,000 hours of helicopter flight experience and he holds an Airline Transport Pilot Licence, a Class 1 Instructor Rating, and an Instrument Rating.  He also holds equivalent licence's from New Zealand and the United States of America.


Rob’s flying experiences include: air ambulance, IFR, offshore operations, helicopter logging, aerial application, drill moving, seismic survey, mountain flying, and ab initio flight training.  He has worked in many countries around the world including Canada, the United States, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya, New Zealand, and throughout the Caribbean.  


Rob has worked as a flight operations Inspector for the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority and as an Aviation Safety Officer for Transport Canada.  Rob had the honour of flying Pope John Paul II during his last visit to Canada.


Rob enjoys instructing students who have a keen interest in flying helicopters and looks forward to providing them with safe, competent flight instruction.
